About Me

I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and I have two degrees, both from the University of Calgary: a Bachelor of Commerce in Management Information Systems (2005), and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies, With Distinction (2010). I worked in IT in 2007, and decided to leave that industry to pursue my passion of writing, journalism, and communications.  For the first two years after I finished my second degree, I volunteered as a

reporter with CJSW and The Gauntlet, which are a radio station and newspaper, respectively, that are located on the University of Calgary’s main campus, as well as a blogger for the Ismaili Soccer League.  After using these volunteer experiences to help further refine my writing skills, I then worked as a freelance journalist for various newspapers in Southern Alberta, while at the same time beginning my career as an author.  I freelanced until May 2013, when I decided to focus more on writing books and building my photography business, which officially launched in 2015.  I also had attempted to launch a database development and consulting business at about the same time that I finished freelancing, but I decided to end it a year later because I just enjoyed writing and photography way too much to go back into something IT-related.

I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures ever since I was a kid, when I would take pictures with my dad’s old 35mm non-interchangeable lens camera, as well as my old 110mm film cameras, one of which has a picture of Michaelangelo of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appear in the bottom right corner when the picture is taken.  I then moved up to using my parents’ old point-and-shoot camera (with permission, of course), which my brother and I gave to them as an anniversary gift in 2007.  I finally moved up to using a DSLR camera in 2012, when I was doing freelance work for various newspapers in Southern Alberta, and the requirement was to have a DSLR camera.  After I had finished freelancing, I realized how much I still wanted to continue taking pictures, and because I enjoyed it so much, I decided to launch a photography business so that I could help others tell their stories through pictures and help others look good in their professional, personal, and family portraits.

My experience in photography comes from a combination of my work, volunteer, and personal experiences.   When I was freelancing, I had taken photos that had to accompany the articles that I was writing for these newspapers.  When I was blogging for the Ismaili Soccer League, I also took photos of the game action, the players, the teams, medal presentations, trophy presentations, and All-Star festivities.  And, in my personal life, I take pictures of things I find interesting, whether it’s when I’m just going hiking, driving to various places and parks in and around Calgary, or when I’m travelling (such as when I’m on vacation).  This includes taking pictures of the people that I meet, if they agree.
